for everyone
Kaisergruft - Kaiser Franz Joseph

I was going to leave this PP out. I have so many hobbies, but cannot bring them together on a photo. Genealogy (too personnel with all my long gone relatives), West Ham United (my favourite football club and where I administrate a forum site - but have no original photos), learning languages (did not want to blog in French, German, Russian, or Italian) and then I had a sort of morbid brainwave. I love photography. My camera is always with me. If I travel to another town or country, one of my tourist hobbies is visiting the local graveyard - you never know who you might find. Vienna is the place for visiting graveyards. They have the biggest in Europe. I took the above photo in the Kaisergruft (the emperor's tomb). It is a fascinating place. The last emperor was Kaiser Franz Josef. He had a couple of children, but the heir committed suicide after being involved in a dubious love affair, His wife was known as "Sissi" (Elizabeth) and there was a film made about her life starring Romy Schneider. The tomb in the middle is Franz Josef and the one on the left Sissi, the other his son Rudolf. I may be a bit off the mark with my submission this time, but it sort of combines my love of photography and the genealogy.

i love wandering around old graveyards .. i particulary like the real old gravestones that say how the ppl died, like = murdered by, or drowned, or excecuted, etc..they are not allowed to put that sort of stuff on graves these days.
there is a graveyard in SA that has 16 childrens graves from the same family, all died in infancy or early childhood.. the graves are not as grand as the ones above, but just as interesting,..
lovely photo tho, nice and clear for such a dark and gloomy place.

LOL Maybe only a little morbid. Very nice hobby though if you think about it. What happens when no one cares any more about these places and they are destroyed? Then at least somewhere there is a photo memory. Great PP!

What an interesting post. And so cool. My grandfather did a genealogy of his side of the family and it dates all the way back to the 1600's. He published it in a hardcover book that I bought from him at almost 500 pages long. It is so awesome to read the older dates. Letters are contained within, How people died, and would you believe I met a relative on myspace and confirmed her spot in my grandfathers book?? Her great grandfathers and my great grandfathers were brothers. She is a very beautiful and an extremely talented violinist. I had a hard time posting one too, you can stop by mine to see what I came up with... have a great week/ weekend, lilangelwolf

I think you qualify for the thinking out of the box! I remember doing gravestone rubbing as a high schooler. Used to have them hung all over my bedroom (creeped out my mom I can tell you). This is kind of a new fangled way, without the intrusion feeling I had when I touched their stones. Far more respectful and very interesting! -janeen
